Rhys Thompson Senior Lawyer


Rhys joined Hornabrook Macdonald in 2013 as a staff solicitor and works closely with Andrew Macdonald. Rhys has a particular interest in corporate and commercial law and advises on a broad range of corporate and commercial issues and transactions.

Prior to joining Hornabrook Macdonald Rhys worked as a solicitor in another Auckland law firm for fourteen months. Rhys also studied international commercial law at the University of Stockholm for 6 months on exchange from the University of Auckland.

Recent Projects

  • Successful Overseas Investment Office application in the significant business asset category ($100+ million).
  • Advising underwriter to issue of convertible notes including Takeovers Code and Overseas Investment Office considerations.
  • Advising multi-national air carrier on various commercial issues.
  • Preparing an international supply and distribution agreement.
  • Legal representative on the tender team for the tender of supply and services contracts with a total value of approximately $30+ million.
  • Various corporate structuring advice including in respect of group companies and limited partnerships.
  • Appearing as junior counsel with Queens Counsel in an arbitration.
